2019 MINI Cooper S E All4 Countryman Plug-in Hybrid Powertrain

This plug-in mini-ute runs on a standard 1.5-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, paired to a 65-kw electric motor, with a 6-speed Steptronic Automatic transmission and standard All4 All-Wheel Drive. The included 7.6-kWh battery pack is small, but can provide EV electric-only cruising capabilities

In total, this system is good for a surprising 221 horsepower and 284 pound-feet of torque. That's actually more than the MINI Countryman S, with its powerful turbo, thanks to the combo punch of the engine + motor.

This powertrain is good for a 0 - 60 time of just about 6.7 seconds, but it can cruise for up to 12 miles on electric power alone, and it seems up to 65 MPGe.

There are rumors of an all-electric MINI Cooper classic arriving sometime in 2019--and that would be the ultimate game-changer for Bay Area drivers who wanted a fun and sporty EV that wouldn't break the bank.
