MINI's 2019 Cooper Hardtop 2-Door Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick

678 × 460

When properly equipped, the 2019 MINI Cooper Hardtop 2-Door model has been named a 2018 Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

This is a step up from last year's model, which missed the rating by the slightest fraction--a simple update to the available LED headlights was all it took to help the MINI Cooper jump back into the Top Safety Pick standing when equipped with the brand's automatic emergency braking system.

It's our safest MINI Cooper Hardtop yet.

IIHS Ratings

The 2019 MINI Cooper received "Good" ratings (the highest of four possible marks) in all Crashworthiness tests, which include small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraints/seats. It received an "Advanced" rating for front-crash prevention under crash avoidance & mitigation testing, and its new optional LED headlights received an "Acceptable" rating (second-highest of four).

Big Moves Toward Safety

Along with the upgraded lights up front, and smarter automatic emergency braking (AEB), the 2019 MINI Cooper family of hard tops offers an extended list of standard and available safety and driver-assistance features to give you a boost of confidence, and greater peace of mind.

The AEB system, as well as a Forward Collision Warning system, are both included under MINI's Active Driving Assistance package.

An eight-airbag system offers protection for front, side, ceiling, and knee areas, providing the most full-coverage protection possible for driver and passengers.
